It was quite a challenge to build a nice and comfortable house on the ‘L’ shaped lot that Anwar, an expatriate, owns in Malikadavil in Kozhikode, Kerala. The height of this home offers a fabulous mix of colonial and contemporary styles.

Covering an area of 2600 sq. Feet, this amazing property offers a seating area, dining area, kitchen with study area and four bedrooms.

The interiors are simple but elegant. The front door opens to the chic formal living area. The floor has now been paved with stoneware tiles. The furniture made of plywood with a veneer finish is a real eye-catcher. The custom-made pieces of furniture perfectly complement the overall theme of the house.

The living area and the stairwell on the opposite side are separated by a wall that is highlighted with beautiful cladding. The stairs only have handrails attached to the wall on one side. Interestingly, this minimalist staircase exudes a classic feel and was also made for an affordable price.

There are two bedrooms on both floors. The bedrooms connected to the bathroom have built-in wardrobes for storage.

The kitchen is furnished in marine plywood with a veneer finish. The countertop has now been paved with exquisite Kalinga stone. The counter on one side of the kitchen is covered with glass and transformed into a rustic breakfast area.

An impressive library was also set up as part of the spacious upper living area. The family is thrilled that they were able to build the house of their dreams by successfully mastering the spatial challenges of a small plot of land.
