The JOHOR government plans to promote a healthy and active community through its “Sukan Makmur XTIF Johor 2021” tournament.
It will be organized by the Johor Sports Council (MSNJ) starting next month.
Nor Syazlan Abd Razak, director of the Sports Council, said the movement control ordinance imposed last year had impacted everyone’s daily routine, not just in terms of work, but also time for exercise.
“The Sukan Makmur XTIF Johor 2021 initiative aims to ensure that we can continue to conduct sporting activities in the new standard,” he said at the meeting of the Sukan Makmur XTIF Johor 2021 Organizing Committee and the handover of the allotment at Bangunan Sultan Ismail in Johor Baru.
He added that the program would include three main competitive sports, namely badminton, Sepak Takraw and netball, with a league concept.
The 56 constituencies in Johor’s 10 districts will take part in the tournament.
The winner from each district will then compete for the state champion.
“These sports were chosen because they are popular,” said Nor Syazlan.
He explained that the organizing committee of each constituency would receive an allocation of 9,000 RM, which is 3,000 RM for each sport, a total of 504,000 RM from the state government.
He stressed that the Sports Council is responsible for developing the sport from the grassroots to the professional level.
The last time MSNJ organized a sports program with the community was Sukan Muafakat Johor in 2019.
“Organizing sports programs that involve the community has always been at the heart of MSNJ.
“The goal here is to bring a healthy lifestyle to all Johoreans,” he added.
The tournament will run from May 21 to June 26 for badminton, May 21 to July 31 (netball) and May 21 to August 28 (Sepak Takraw).
