PELHAM – The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that more than 3.4 million people die each year from complications from waterborne diseases, making the lack of clean water the leading cause of disease and death worldwide.

And according to an assessment commissioned by the United Nations, “4,000 children die every day as a result of diseases caused by ingesting dirty water”. That’s 166.6 preventable deaths per hour; 2.7 children lost per minute.

Donnie Sapp, longtime resident and owner of Sapp’s fitness garage in Pelham, and his wife Telura are on a mission to help contain these dire numbers and help this cause.

Sapp was inspired by his longtime friend Forrest Walden, the founder of Iron Tribe Fitness, who is also a longtime supporter of Neverthirst Water and sits on the board of that organization.

Now, Sapps Fitness Garage and Neverthirst Water are jointly holding their first annual charity, Workout for Water, to raise $ 5,000 in a single day.

Workout for Water takes place from 9 a.m. in Sapps Fitness Garage in Pelham. This is a fun, family-friendly event and not a race or competition. You don’t have to be super fit to participate. It is for everyone who loves to exercise! There will be four practice stations with a team of three to four people participating and sharing the reps for each exercise. One person from each team carries a jerry can of water to mimick what it’s like to bring water from a well to a village. It’s a fun workout for a good cause!

Attendees pay $ 30 to register and receive a free Workout for Water t-shirt at the event. Alternatively, donations are accepted via the website.
