When the word is perfect in your company’s name, what you promise is not expected to be very good or really good, but perfect.
“Our slogan is: ‘The proof is in the dough’. We don’t hide behind our frosting, ”said Tamika Mitchell.
Mitchell owns Perfect Poundcakes in East Hartford.
Along with her daughter Jayla, who she said has amazing frosting skills, and son Jay, a powerhouse, the Perfect Poundcake produces thousands of poundcups every week.
Poundcups are made from pound cake batter in a cupcake shape.
Poundcup batter is thick and moist, according to Mitchell. Cupcake batter is light and fluffy.
Mitchell uses her mother-in-law’s secret pound cake recipe.
“Anyone who knows the recipe cannot write it down, they have to keep it in mind. My family, we all know it by heart, ”she said.
It’s hard to argue with Mitchell.
Their customers come from all over the place, these women drove in from Springfield at 3pm to buy two dozen different ones, including the stores’ favorite poundcups: coconut.
Perfect Poundcakes actually sells poundcakes.
Grandma’s Original is her bestseller.
If you can’t reach her East Hartford shop, you can find her at the farmers’ markets in Ellington and Coventry on Saturdays and Sundays.
