Olympic Video games in Tokyo | “The boys’ health stage is unbelievable”

A great comeback for the team, says Alloysius.

Edwards Alloysius, India’s goalkeeper at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, praised the men’s team for their “fantastic performance” at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

“The team spirit of the guys and their fitness were incredible. They took on the fittest teams in Tokyo, ”said Alloysius.

Out of the ordinary

“The overall performance was exceptionally good. The defeat against Belgium was not unexpected given its overall superiority. But I owe it to the Indian team for keeping their rivals at bay for almost three quarters of the game, ”he said.

“It was a great comeback for the team after the humiliating defeat to the Aussies in the league phase. It showed courage and conviction in fighting for a medal, ”said the former captain of India. “Trainer Graham Reid was brilliant and successfully shaped the team into a champion outfit. He has repaid the trust placed in him by Hockey India, ”said Alloysius.

He was particularly pleased with the performance of PR Sreejesh, who said the manager was under immense pressure as no goalkeeper of his caliber could replace him. “Although he had a bit of a problem blocking shots on goal close to the ground, Sreejesh was excellent at making saves from the air,” he said. “The biggest benefit of this achievement is that government departments as well as private players will show a greater interest in hockey player recruitment. This has not been the case in the recent past, ”said Alloysius.

“The authorities concerned should make every effort to ensure that we can benefit from this great show. With India also hosting the World Cup, long-term plans are needed to get the sport back on track, ”he said.
