The hardest part about a healthy lifestyle is the lack of obvious and immediate rewards. Yes, you feel better, but you still have bad days. It can be rewarding to touch your toes without losing your breath. Temptation can win more often than not, however, so feelings of guilt are a fairly common feeling for people making real efforts to live healthy lives.
To be honest, as humans we are all better off when an apple is in front of us. Knowing that there is an incredibly positive reward waiting for you for your efforts is a powerful motivator. Some researchers may have just found this apple.
An article published in the Journal of Aging suggests that in just eight weeks of easier lifestyle changes, people can reverse aging to be three years younger. I can’t think of a better reward than getting younger.
This randomized, controlled clinical trial showed that balancing DNA methylation (the process that changes genes – the accumulation of damage caused by the stress and strain of aging and disease) changes biological age in just under two months reduced over three years. There are many diet options and supplements known to alter DNA methylation, and since DNA methylation patterns have been identified as highly predictive of biological age, this study showed that it doesn’t take much time to make a truly positive change effect in your health and longevity.

Study participants, healthy men between the ages of 50 and 72, received a minimally processed food diet, received supplemental probiotics and phytonutrients, and did adequate sleep, exercise, and relaxation work during the eight weeks.
The study’s authors concluded that not only is this a powerful method for predicting aging, but also the big difference simple interventions can make in a short amount of time.
