SABC2 celebrates normal home cooking in the new show “Kontreikos Kokke”, which premieres on July 6th at 7pm.

The show is hosted by the popular TV personality Lynette Francis-Puren, who is known for her tough interview skills on SABC 2’s current programs “Fokus” and “Praat Saam”.

Francis-Puren takes on her role in Kontreikos Kokke and will have the opportunity to engage with the audience in a more relaxed and informal way while visiting the small town of South Africa.

Francis-Puren took to Instagram last month to share the local news.

In the caption she wrote: “More than a cent … #OnLocation #Willowmore #kontreikoskok #bridgesforcommunities #DoYouRememberTheTime #NewShow #AnotherSideOfMe #SheReady”.

“Kontreikos Kokke” is a special kind of cooking show that allows viewers to enjoy the small town culture, partake of the experience, remember home-made food from local chefs, and the communities choose the winner.

The format of the show is to travel the countryside to find the best househusband nominated by their community in small towns across South Africa.

The nominees have the chance to cook the same local dish at home according to their own recipes, they serve it, the locals taste it and decide which dish tickles their taste buds.

At the end of each episode, the winner will receive a cash prize of R5,000, bragging rights and the title of Dorpies as Country Cook.

The 13 episodes of the show will feature Northern Cape home cooks from the small towns of Victoria West, Loxton Karoo Region, Kenhardt, Keimoes and Danielskuil; Free State from the small towns of Philippolis, Trompsburg, Ficksburg, Fouriesburg and Rosendal; and Willomore and Joubertina of Eastern Cape.

Some of the popular homemade dishes featured on the show include beef cottage pie, karoo land pie, lamb by-products with samp, and a favorite South African dessert dish – milk cake and sago.

Catch Kontreikos Kokke starting Tuesday July 6th on SABC 2 at 7pm.
