SAN FRANCISCO – If you are looking for a new way to get and exercise outdoors, then water biking is the place for you. It’s a great way to burn calories while seeing San Francisco from a unique perspective. Damien McCloud is the founder and owner of SpinOut Fitness, the world’s first water bike fitness and touring club based in San Francisco. His goal is to make water biking and outdoor fitness fun and inclusive.
“I really try to make it as accessible, safe, and affordable for people to walk on or near the water as possible because it’s very healing and a lot of fun,” says Damien.
Water biking is suitable for all ages and takes about five to ten minutes to learn. Damien adds, “You don’t even have to be able to swim. You don’t even have to be able to ride a bike. You can actually jump on it and as long as you can move your legs you can walk! ”
What exactly is a water wheel? Damien sums it up best: “The water bike is a catamaran. There are two pontoons on either side. And each pontoon is filled with 10 pounds of air. That gives you about 350 pounds of buoyancy, so the bike itself weighs about 90 pounds. That Bicycle is very stable, stable and safe. You can’t really turn it around. “
For Damien, “every day is a leg day” and his enthusiasm is contagious.
“I went water biking with Damien and I absolutely loved my experience. I grew up in the Bay Area, but it’s so calm on the water and you really see the city from a different perspective. It was really amazing. It was a great one Opportunity to go outside and get a really good workout too. It was really fun, “says Kelsey Tom.
